The former Brazilian leader has been detained after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was found guilty of plotting a armed takeover in the ninth month and sentenced more than over two decades in jail, but he was staying under confinement pending appeals.

The former president was convicted of leading a plot aimed at retaining his authority after he failed to win the national vote to his ideological adversary, Lula.

Top judicial officials said that he had knowledge of a plan which included plans to assassinate the current president and his VP candidate, Alckmin, and to arrest and execute Alexandre de Moraes - the top judicial official who has been presiding over Bolsonaro's trial.
