Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, fiends, and dark forces growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will branch out from the main group to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the team knows exactly where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could enable the party access locations they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
- The warrior and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Seekers and Planners tables.
Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
