19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with former coach his previous coach.

Now training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.

It is his maiden championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

The win also means he has won 21 victories at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his past six championship matches, comprising in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to doubt if his skill to play at the elite level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the final five points to take the lead.

The competitors traded break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden tour championship, took control to create a final set.

Moutet defended four initial opportunities in a competitive third set before Medvedev won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the title with a rally at the net area, with his opponent failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
